Los Angeles Tutoring Adventures - Kayla's POV

Hey there, I’m Kayla! I’m from Brunswick, New Jersey and I’ve been a credentialed teacher in California for 7 years. I enjoy working with students in middle and high school humanities and foreign languages such as Spanish and French.

Read on for more about my experience tutoring in the Los Angeles area for Learning Period.

Los Angeles has definitely become special in my heart since moving to this bustling city for grad school. I’ve had the chance to tutored all over Los Angeles, but downtown Los Angeles is majorly unique!

My first job with Learning Period was actually a last-minute sub request, as I was new to the company. I worked with a twice exceptional 4th grader in math enrichment and reading catch-up. (Quite the combo!) The boy’s mom was actually a small business owner, and it was really cool to just chat after sessions and hear her stories.

Embracing the City of Angels:
A Teacher's Journey in Los Angeles

Hello Parents!

As I sit here in the bustling heart of Los Angeles, sipping my morning coffee with the sun peeking through the palm trees, I can’t help but reflect on the journey that brought me to this vibrant city and the role it plays in shaping my life as a teacher.

Teaching in Los Angeles is like being handed a key to a treasure trove of diversity, creativity, and endless opportunities for growth. Every day, I step into my classroom ready to embark on a new adventure, knowing that my students come from all walks of life, each with their own unique stories and dreams.

One of the most beautiful aspects of teaching here is the sense of community that permeates through the city. I remember one particular afternoon when a group of us teachers decided to ditch the textbooks and venture out into the city for some much-needed bonding time. We found ourselves at a local art gallery, mesmerized by the vibrant colors and intricate brushstrokes that adorned the walls. As we wandered from exhibit to exhibit, sharing stories and laughter, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the camaraderie that exists among educators in this city.

But it’s not just within the confines of the school walls that I find inspiration and connection. Los Angeles itself is a melting pot of cultures, cuisines, and experiences waiting to be explored. From the hustle and bustle of downtown to the serene beaches of Malibu, there’s never a shortage of things to see and do. Whether it’s catching a movie at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre, indulging in mouthwatering tacos from a local food truck, or simply taking a leisurely stroll along the Venice Beach boardwalk, every corner of this city offers a new adventure waiting to be discovered.

And let’s not forget about the endless opportunities for personal and professional growth that abound in this city. From workshops and seminars to networking events and cultural festivals, Los Angeles is a hub of innovation and creativity where ideas are born and dreams are realized. As a teacher, I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of a community that values lifelong learning and encourages us to constantly push the boundaries of what we thought possible.

So, as I sit here soaking in the warmth of the California sun, I can’t help but feel a sense of gratitude for the journey that brought me to this incredible city and the role it continues to play in shaping both my personal and professional life. Los Angeles truly is the City of Angels, where every day brings new opportunities for growth, connection, and endless adventure. And I, for one, am grateful to be along for the ride.
